Car Launches

Thinking aback,I've attended two car launchings this year, both closed-doors,hush hush exclusive events.First was the launching of the new Mercedes CLK,thinking that since it was launched for VIPs,I actually went dressed in pants and pullovers, everyone there was dressed like they were going for the Oscars,I didnt even bothered bringing my invitation card, being refused entry,I was luckily spotted by Mr. Phua,CEO of Cycle & Carriage and permitted to enter.I dont feel outta place but I do not know why so many people keep giving me the stares..Its not a big deal to owe a Mercedes in our country where as long as you have $2.40,you can afford to flag one down.

The boring event went on,and they dun even allow test-drives,so whats the point of inviting me there,I left before the event finished.

Next was the launching of the BMW 6 series, they claimed that 1000 units been fully booked since 2004,I pondered, then why have this launching again??My salutes to those that made their orders without seeing the actual product. This time round,I was more dressed up,jeans, inner shirt with a jacket.Still I got the stares..i stayed for a short while as the buffet line was normal and the wine sucks...This time I was being stopped from leaving by their operational manager Mr. Lim,the idiot that invited me there,he said there would be some video shots and some crappy technical talk by a German engineer,I turned down flatly by giving a lame excuse of I left my mobile in the car..

Both events clearly showed me how the words VIP can change a person, they can act as if they are of the higher social status and can lie thru their teeth, making stupid remarks like,"i have two Bmws back home and I'm planning to buy a new one this year." Come on,you dun actually owe a car in Singapore, you're merely renting it from the government,if you have the spare cash, donate it to people that needs more than splurging on a model that go outta trend in two months. And you dun gain respect when you brag or boast, you'll just lower your karma..
Launches are motives for companies and people to get together and brag everything under the sun, though I hate such events now.

I still attend for the sake of attending it...Still I look forward to the launching of the new Toyota's Alphard Hybrid...
